Tasty Florence Restaurants

Jan 11 , 2011

The aromas drifting through the streets will get your mouth watering every time. The city has enough food and wine for all so, no matter your craving, you’re in for a treat at Florence restaurants.

Vacationing in Florence brings thoughts of grandiose treats, from the art and museums to staying in historic Florence hotels. But two of the biggest lures of the city are the legendary food and wine found in Florence restaurants. Whether you’re in the mood for an outdoor café or a full meal, you won’t have to venture far to satisfy your craving.

Cafes

Most importantly, make sure to get out and sample some of the famed Italian pastries and coffee. Try Colle Bereto, a two-floor café located in the heart of the city. It’s easily accessed and provides a variety of culinary treats and snacks. As an added bonus, it is run by a Chianti wine producer, so the afternoon glass of wine and snack offerings are just as delicious.

Don’t forget to stop by Casa del Vino one night on your trip. This traditional vinaio brings back the Florence enjoyed by travelers here in the 19th century. As the name suggests, the venue is a fine choice to get a taste for the wine grown in the region.

And if you’re in the mood for something a bit cozier, try Acqua Al 2, a long-standing favorite among visitors and Florentines alike. Their specialty is in providing small courses for tasting, though once you’ve tried it, you are more than welcome to order the larger portions of your favorites.

Entrees

Though dining in Florence does tend to be very meat-oriented, the city has its share of seafood offerings. For a fine dining experience near the Palazzo del Bargello, try Alle Murate. Find yourself here surrounded by 13th century frescos contrasted with the contemporary Tuscan menu with care taken to draw inspiration from the season. As per expectation in Florence, the wine list is well refined. For a more local influence, try Fuor d’Acqua which features a menu rotation dependent on whatever fish happen to be caught by the fishermen at the nearby coast that day.

Vegetarians can also find Florence restaurants catering to their preferences. Featuring a regularly changing menu due to the availability of various produce, Il Vegetariano, located near the Giardino della Fortezza, always has a lovely selection for those whose choice it is to abstain from meat. For other options, try Sedano Allegro who tries to cater to vegans as well as vegetarians. Sedano Allegro is also a nice spot and provides something with a little more substance to the bite as they do have fish options.

International Restaurants

Finally, if you’re in the mood for less local flare and something close to home – wherever that may be – Florence has attracted its share of restaurateurs from abroad to satisfy those cravings. For example, if you’re looking for dishes with a Middle-Eastern taste, try Amon. It serves traditional Egyptian fare such as felafel. Unlike other kabob stands and the like, they do take care to marinate their meats to perfection and provide a singular dining experience. Additionally, Japanese, Indian, Greek, and even Mexican food are all found in Florence if the mood strikes.

You can’t go wrong with any of the best Florence restaurants, and your dining experiences will provide you with sweet memories for a lifetime. Buon appetito.
