The Best of Florence Nightlife

There is a variety of bars and the youthful atmosphere in the clubs that many visitors find exciting. Florence nightlife will show you another side of the city and Italian culture. If you're tired the next day, you'll be happy to have experienced this unforgettable piece of Florentine culture.

Florence has some of the most flexible licensing hours in Italy with bars that can stay open as late as 1 or 3AM. Most of the nightlife is near the Piazza della Signoria but you can also find some great bars in Oltrarno, an avant-garde area south of the River Arno. Since Florence has many students, most venues are packed with college-aged partygoers. If you'd like to avoid the crowds while enjoying Florence nightlife, stay away from large dance clubs.

Traveler Tip:  When people meet up to enjoy Florence nightlife, they usually do one of two things. They either bar hop throughout the night and enjoy small snacks at each spot or they go to a dance club. It's usually at the last minute that people decide where they're going; so, if you want to be informed ahead of time, keep your eyes peeled for flyers. For safety reasons, know how you're going to get home and never leave your drink unattended.

Night Clubs

In Florence, there are many clubs. Some of the most well-regared Florence nightlife clubs are Space, Central Park, Twice and Astor Caffé. Space has great techno music and gets very busy on the weekends. It's a wonderful place to meet students and other tourists. Central Park feels a little more spacious and it tends to be a little bit more fashionable. Avoid wearing touristy clothes like shorts and ragged T-Shirts. Twice is a trendy wine club. From 9pm-11pm, Twice serves wonderful wines in a relaxing, but elegant setting. At 11pm, Twice transforms into a disco wine bar. If you've never seen a disco wine bar, put Twice on your list. Astor Caffé is a wonderful bar for enjoying Florence nightlife because it has an upstairs and a downstairs. The upstairs has a relaxed lounge feel where the downstairs offers a non-stop dance party.

Live Music

If you like clubs but prefer live music, visit one of the best music venues. The Jazz Club at Via Nuova de' Caccina 3 in Santa Croce is one of the last venues in Florence that specializes in Jazz. You'll hear anything from traditional jazz music to some more experimental bands. Visit Monday through Saturday 9pm-2am.

For some great rock music, make your way to Stazione Leopolda outside of the city gates. This old railway station is now one of the best Florence nightlife venues. It also has a famous catwalk used for local fashion shows. Check for concerts ahead of time so that you have time to buy tickets.

When it comes to Florence nightlife, you really can't go wrong. There is a great diversity of bars and clubs. Once you check into your Florence hotel, ask around. A great club might be next door.
